Dianthus carthusianorum L. ssp. alpestris Neilr.

Flora Europaea does not recognize this taxon

This subspecies much confused in the Carpathians with the controversial Dianthus tenuifolius Schur is in fact the boreal and subalpine correspondent of Dianthus carthusianorum L. It has blackish red calyx and involicral bracts and very large flowers clustered 1 to 6. Though not recognized by Flora Europaea this taxon should desserve a subspecific rank.

Ciucas Mountains, 22nd of August 2006, 1750 m asl.
